About me

My name's Sarah and I'm a photographer and writer.

My work has been featured in Creative Countryside magazine, Country Homes and Interiors magazine and the Country Living Magazine Christmas special issue.

I live in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire with my partner James (Jay) and little boy, Joe. We recently moved here after three years on the Isle of Skye - a huge adventure for us - but decided now was the right time to return to friends and family. We’re continuing the adventure, albeit on a slightly less epic scale, by this time residing on the other side of the Pennines to the one we started on (I’m a Lancashire girl born and bred) and are in the process of renovating a little house up a steep hill, in the village of Heptonstall. I’ve known the area for a very long time but there’s still much to explore and discover, both in Hebden Bridge and out in the hills and on the moors.

I write about the seasons, nature and simple living. We live a quiet life where pleasure is found in the little details - those we notice when we slow down and savour what we already have: good times with friends and family, wholesome and tasty things to eat, gentle home comforts. To me, connecting with the outdoors each day is vital. That time spent somewhere green and wild, either alone or with others (usually a curious ten-year-old), is when I feel the most inspired and grounded.

So, after years of working in various fields including arts administration, teaching and a brief dabble in floristry, I decided to finally take the plunge and use my creativity to work for myself. I started drawing again. I learned the techniques for making lino and mono prints and progressed to running workshops for small groups whilst living in the Hebrides. I’m taking my photography much more seriously. Over time, my personal blog brought me into contact with some lovely people and we collaborated on various projects. This in turn led to my starting a new website - Frond & Feather - featuring my musings, photography, prints and all that inspires me. I've also worked as Nature Editor then Deputy Editor at Creative Countryside magazine and online journal, where I wrote alongside some truly talented people, about the things I love.

I now work part time in a local gallery which showcases artists and makers based in Yorkshire and across the UK. This allows me to spend time amongst other like-minded, creative individuals whilst also pursuing my own creative endeavours.

I recently published my own magazine. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of; I get to combine my favourite pursuits (writing and photography) whilst focusing on what inspires me: seasonality, nature, wellbeing, stories, hearth and home. Frond & Feather journal is a quarterly journal, independently published, and Issue One: Autumn launched in September 2022.

I have big plans for Frond & Feather; by bringing it to life as a print (and digital) publication I realised I’ve finally found my passion. If inspiration, motivation and imagination can be the power behind it then the sky’s the limit!
