My Garden

This post is about my garden. In the front garden we have big trees. We cut one down but we left enough trunk for me to climb up. We also kept the logs and have a big log pile by the kitchen door. Some of the logs are up at my school in the Forest School area, so we can sit on them and have stories.

I also have a swing on the other big tree. It’s made from a buoy on a long rope and I like playing on it.

This is the stream where I explore and build clay pots. It gets very high after the rain but very low in summer. There are fish living in it. There are lots of willow trees along the edges and blackberries growing up them.

Our sprouts are covered in caterpillars and butterfly eggs. We do have one apple left on the tree in the front garden but all the others blew off when they were tiny. We’re hoping this one grows big.

Underneath our cherry tree I have got lots of bones including a sheep’s spine and skull and a ram’s horn. I collect them from the beach.

We have a big outbuilding called the studio because it used to belong to a potter then an artist. We might knock it down eventually because it gets very damp but I go in there with Daddy and we light the stove to warm it up. We use it for parties sometimes. A butterfly got trapped in there yesterday and we rescued it from a spider. There is also a lean-to where we keep plant pots and garden tools and also my crabbing nets and bucket.

Yesterday was sunny and I made some hedgehog dens with Mummy using sticks, leaves, bark chips and grass. I also put some slugs, snails and centipedes nearby for hedgehogs to eat.

I’m looking forward to hedgehogs maybe moving in. We already have a baby toad which keeps coming into the kitchen and we have to hide it in the bushes so our cat doesn’t find it.
