Spring at home

School is shut so I will be spending a lot of time in the garden. Fortunately the weather is nice. I also have a Nature Journal for school and I’m learning about plants.

I like to go in the stream in search of minnows and grubs. There are also bigger fish there. We have willow trees growing on the banks and also hazel trees. Our cat drinks from the stream and knows about the fish! He crosses over it and isn’t scared of water.

A few weeks ago we made a wigwam from willow. I’ve been watering it so it will take root.

The apple trees in the front garden are starting to blossom and we’ve planted a tiny horse chestnut tree. We’re also growing sunflowers, rhubarb, potatoes, gooseberries and salmon berries.

There is a lot of blossom on our cherry tree right now. All the leaves are growing on the other trees and bushes and there are lots of birds: blackbirds, sparrows, robins, bluetits, ring necked doves, crows, finches and there is a very noisy cuckoo nearby!

Mackie the cat has to wear a bell to warn the birds he’s around…
